The federal government has warned – Canada faces another catastrophic wildfire season. The country is on high alert. Boosted by El Nino, there is higher-than-normal spring and summer temperatures across much of the country,
Last year Canada endured its worst-ever fire season. More than 6,600 blazes burned 15 million hectares, an area roughly seven times the annual average. Eight firefighters died and 230,000 people were evacuated from their homes.
This fire started mid day, May 11th. Only a few hours after this blaze began hundred of hectares were aflame, east of Teepee Creek, AB. By midnight the fire jumped the Smoky River, into Greenview No 16 municipality. With the dawn of a new day, the sky is smoke filled, the wind has stopped and the temperature is much cooler.
