AUTHOR’S NOTE: Why I wrote ’12 1/2 Angels greed is at odds with godliness’: I have written this story to explore the concept of regret and redemption. This story will leave the reader grappling with the curiosity as to whether or not we can atone for the past and shape the trajectory of one in death. When standing at Heaven’s gates there might be a possibility of finding oneself at a crossroads – or in Mario’s case, balancing on a high-wire not knowing if he will be granted access to Heaven or be shunted into eternal damnation.
As mortals we often wonder if when faced with the chance to redeem oneself if there is there a possibility to right a person’s wrongs. Readers can follow Mario as he navigates the treacherous realm between heaven and hell, and learns the true meaning of wealth and power, greed and generosity, and life and death.
12 1/2 Angels
Greed is at odds with godliness
Death came for the miserly skinflint, Mario Flagstaff, in the most unusual of ways – choking on a smoked-gouda stuffed olive. As a man consumed by greed and his own big ego, Mario believed he would never die. He was shocked at what awaited him in the afterlife. Barely escaping the wraths of hell, there was no royal welcome awaiting him in heaven. None of this was as he imagined it would be. Stuck in purgatory, Archangel Jeremiel expected Mario to pay penance for his greed. Heaven’s pearly gates were locked up tighter than a clam with lock-jaw but the gates to hell were always open. Drifting up heaven’s staircase were the cries of Lucifer tempting the lost souls to a perpetual hell. Mario felt like he was on a tight rope stretched between the gates of heaven and eternal damnation. All too often he felt the flames licking at his heels.
Mario’s journey towards redemption tests his character and forces him to confront the darkness within himself. Follow Mario as he navigates the treacherous realm between heaven and hell, and learns the true meaning of wealth and power, greed and generosity, and life and death. Fans of Dante’s Inferno will devour this thought-provoking, somewhat humorous tale of one man’s journey towards redemption.
