Historical fiction isn’t history, but it can reveal the historical truths that lie beyond the evidentiary. This style of fiction plunges the writer into an alternative world. It is not a fully imagined world but an alternative world that actually existed. On some level the story has been invented, since we cannot know what it was like to be there. Historical novels are an exploration of the human roots – like those of a tree. It is the beginning of terrestrial life as we know it. Painting a picture from a moment in time we have not experienced is like being a star in your own movie.
The author is able to entertain, educate, and show a certain event or time period – from a unique and creative perspective.
Factual history makes the character’s story feel real – sometimes in surprising ways.

The art of writing is immersing the reader in a story that makes history come alive.
