If you want your readers to binge their way through a book—or to go get the next book in a series—you’ll want to load up your story with cliffhangers.
The cliffhanger is the hook that makes the reader turn the page. Without a solid cliffhanger that pulls them into the next chapter, your reader may close the book – forever.
The cliffhanger “wheel” has already been invented. As writers, we need to figure out how to harvest the power of the wheel for our own writing. The trick to this is awareness and practice.
In order to become more aware of cliffhangers – READ!
When writing fiction, drama can get quite complicated. You need characters that readers can empathize with and root for. You need a plot with twists and turns, so readers stay eager to learn more.
Readers crave answers to their story questions and they’ll keep turning the pages to get them. But you have to anticipate when they need the information and give it to them before they get fed up.
Use cliffhangers in your blog posts. When your reader is struggling with a problem or dreaming of a better life, the writer has to tell him how to get there, how to defeat his demons, and how to achieve his goals.
