Of the many phobias, readers fear of running out of reading material is no laughing matter. As odd as this may seem, many people experience mild forms of this condition every day. A voracious reader will experience a mild form of abibliophobia if you leave the house only to realize you accidentally left all your books behind.
Luckily there’s a simple cure for abibliophobia – books. A quick visit to your local library or second-hand bookstore, a rummage through your old favourites for a re-read, or a social media shout-out for a loan of books will get you a “fix”.
The abibliophobic personality is easily identifiable at a breakfast table. If there is no newspaper or magazine in sight then that person will momentarily panic, before proceeding to read the contents of the cereal box.
Abibliophobia is certainly a fear, however I’m quite certain it shall remain a humorous one since the idea of running out of reading material does seem all but impossible. This phobia occurs in people who like to read, anything and everything, all the time. Abibliophobic is not dangerous and easily treated.
The cure is books.
- Visit your local library or bookstore.
- Rummage through your old favourites for a re-read.
- Become a book reviewer.
- Find a friend who lends books.
- Remind friends that book gift certificates are the best gift.
Perhaps this is the dark side of abibliophobia, but I don’t want to be cured!
