MY GREATEST ADVENTURE:

In 2005, when we untied the shore-lines of Wyntersea, I had no idea that I was about to set off on one of the greatest adventure of my lifetime. It started on Vancouver Island, then Alaska and down the west-coast of the United States, before docking in Mexico. From there I sailed across the entire South Pacific Ocean to French Polynesia, (Marquesas Islands, Tuamotus and Society Islands) Cook Islands, Niue, Tonga and Fiji. After pausing for a long rest in New Zealand I went north again to the islands, Vanuatu and New Caledonia, and ended my sailing journey in Australia.

MY SECOND GREATEST ADVENTURE:

WAINWRIGHT’S COAST TO COAST WALK

Imagine trekking across the breadth of northern England – from St Bees to Robin Hood’s Bay – a 100 mile journey that leads the walker across three National Parks: the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors. Part 1 of Wainwright’s walk beings on the west coast near the Irish Sea, across the Lake District to the soft rolling hills of Eden Valley – ending in Kirkby Stephen.

Pick up on the walk from Kirkby Stephen to Keld and the beautiful River Swale to the historic market town of Richmond before leaving the Yorkshire Dales to cross the low-lying Vale of Mowbray. After crossing North York Moors National Park, the trail undulates spectacularly where I dipped my toes in the North Sea at Robin Hood’s Bay.
